Menachem (Mel) Lifshitz, a partner in the Manhattan law firm of Bernstein, Liebhard & Lifshitz, LLP, has reportedly paid $4.75 million to settle charges that he evaded taxes by lying about expenses and donations to charities. Newsday reports that Lifshitz pleaded guilty yesterday in State Supreme Court in Manhattan to a felony count of filing a false personal income tax return.
Lifshitz, a securities and consumer class action litigator, has also reportedly agreed to stop practicing, according to the Manhattan district attorney’s office, and no longer appears on the Bernstein, Liebhard & Lifshitz website.

how can a person plead to and owe the state over $4M in taxes, penaltiers and interest without owing a much larger amount to the federal gov’t? something is very fishy here…….
