Matthew Martens Joins SEC as Chief Litigation Counsel

Matthew T. Martens has joined the SEC as the new Chief Litigation Counsel of the Division of Enforcement. Martens will oversee the SEC’s litigation program in its Washington headquarters trial unit and coordinate the activities of trial attorneys across the enforcement program in the 11 regional offices.

Since 2003, Martens has served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of North Carolina, most recently as Deputy Criminal Chief. He has also been the Corporate & Securities Fraud Coordinator in that office for the past six years.

Martens replaces Luis Mejia, who left the SEC in November 2009 to join DLA Piper.
