In the UK, the latest in an extraordinary string of insider trading trials will begin today. The Press Association reports that Christopher McQuoid, a solicitor, and James Melbourne, his 74-year-old pensioner father-in-law, will stand trial on Monday for allegedly buying shares in wireless technology firm TTP Communications shortly before its 2006 takeover by US mobile phone giant Motorola.
McQuoid and Melbourne each deny the charge of insider trading and the two-week trial will be held at London’s Southwark Crown Court. As previously discussed here, today’s case is one of four insider trading cases the UK’s FSA expects to bring this year.
