Each week lately seems to bring news of widespread layoffs in law firms in the US and the UK, but one particular segment of the lawyer population remains in strong demand. The Recorder reports that fueled by the financial crisis, numerous plaintiffs’ securities class action firms are actively hiring associates now. The firms hiring include Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossmann; Berman DeValerio; and Girard Gibbs.
Since mid-2009, BLB&G has added eight associates and four counsel firmwide, and is presently looking for associates at all levels in New York and San Diego. Berman DeValerio is actively seeking lawyers, as well, and plans to add up to two associates to its San Francisco office, the Recorder reports. Girard Gibbs just hired two associates and the firm wants to add at least two more associates this year.
Dan Girard of Girard Gibbs believes that following the financial crisis, “the next five to 10 years in this field are going to be an interesting and very active time.”
