The U.S. Senate Banking Subcommittee on Securities will reportedly hold a hearing in May to examine the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement. Citing a “source familiar with the matter,” Reuters reports that the subcommittee on securities will examine a new government report on the Division of Enforcement.
Reuters reports that last year, Jack Reed, the chairman of the subcommittee, and Democratic Sen. Christopher Dodd, the chairman of the full Senate Banking Committee, “asked congressional investigators to review whether there has been a fundamental change in the way the SEC’s enforcement division handles cases,” and asked the Government Accountability Office to review whether the SEC has sufficient enforcement staff and funding.
