Marketplace Podcast: Lawmakers’ Inside Advantage to Trading

By Securities Docket on September 21, 2009, 9:31 am

CapitolDome230Public Radio’s Marketplace has an excellent podcast (below) and article on the issue of the ongoing legal loophole that allows congressional insider trading. According to research by Alan Ziobrowski, a business professor at Georgia State University who analyzed more than 6000 stock transactions by members of Congress going back up to 15 years, congressmen “do better down market, up market. They just outperform the average.” Ziobrowski adds that “we have every reason to believe they are trading on information that the rest of us don’t have.”
