Dallas attorney Ralph Janvey, receiver in the Stanford case, says that many lawmakers have not returned donations made to them by R. Allen Stanford. The Dallas News estimates that Stanford donated more than $1.8 million to approximately 70 members of Congress, in addition to the fundraising committees for both democrats and republicans.
According to the Dallas News, Janvey is sending letters this week to members of Congress and both committees, demanding that the donations be returned. He sent similar letters in Feb. 2009, but only managed to recover $88,000.
Some lawmakers claimed that they would donate Stanford’s contributions to charity, but most have not followed through on that promise. If they do not return the donations, Janvey may file a lawsuit to recover the assets.
Great they are trying to get this money back. It is amazing to me that the govt is basically doing the same thing to the Madoff people. We paid taxes to the IRS and our govt local taxes and we are denied payment on this fraud. If we had not paid the taxes we would be in jail—plus the interest and penalties theyt felt we owed.
I am 81 years old, lost my husband of 60 years, and lost the money we had saved all our working lives so we would be secure when we finally retired. I thank God every night my husband did not live to see how that retirement was robbed from us.
