U.S. Securities Class Action Settlement Amounts Up 35% in 2009

On Wednesday, Stanford Law School and Cornerstone Research issued a report showing that U.S. securities class action settlement amounts rose 35% in 2009. Reuters reports that researchers expect the numbers will continue to rise in 2010, because of cases brought related to the financial crisis.

Specifically, there were 103 settlements totaling $3.83 billion last year. In 2008, there were 97 settlements totaling $2.75 billion in 2008, according to the report.
