Stanford Seeks New Attorneys, Again

By Amanda Harding on April 2, 2010, 10:15 am

On Tuesday, R. Allen Stanford filed a motion requesting new legal representation in his Ponzi scheme trial. If the motion is granted, this will be his fourth set of attorneys, according to the AP.

Kent Schaffer and George Secrest currently represent Stanford, however they claim there is conflict about how Stanford’s case should be tried. The AP reports that Stanford is now asking to be represented by Michael Essmyer and Bob Bennett.

“Mr. Secrest and I believe our strategy in trying the case is important,” Schaffer said. “Mr. Stanford has his own ideas. We’re happy he’s found lawyers who want to do it the way he wants to do it.” A hearing will be held on April 6.
