The ‘Collateral Punishment’ That an Insider Trading Defendant Can Suffer

With the recent flurry of insider trading cases, most people are familiar with the typical “punishments” that can result for defendants who are found to have committed the offense. There is jail time, of course, in criminal cases, and there can be disgorgement, penalties and injunctions against future violations in SEC cases. But what about the “collateral punishment” that can result?
