SEC enforcement actions heat up in January–Business Law Currents

April may be the cruelest month, as poet TS Eliot wrote, but the SEC has made January a calamitous month for a new batch of defendants. The Commission has filed no fewer than eight complaints or administrative proceedings so far in the new year against not only a couple of big names, but some new social media wrinkles, an exotic locale and some good old-fashioned securities fraudsters.
