SEC’s Schapiro: More Than 300 Money Funds Rescued Since 1970s – WSJ.com

Money-market mutual funds have been rescued from financial trouble by their parent companies more than 300 times, a greater number than previously reported, according to the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission….

Only two money-market funds have actually “broken the buck,” meaning their share price dropped significantly below $1. Still, the internal bailouts have increased in size, adding to the risk that firms may not be able to shore up their funds, Ms. Schapiro said….
