Australia: No let-up for the king of class actions

By Securities Docket on December 3, 2012, 3:02 pm

But one person whose opinion counts more than most is Andrew Watson, a partner at Maurice Blackburn who runs the law firm’s class actions business.

As the man behind every major shareholder class action in this country, Watson is feared by listed company boards. He has won nine-figure settlement sums from National Australia Bank over allegations it should have told the market earlier about its exposure to the US sub-prime collapse, Centro over its failure to properly account for $5?billion of debt, and Multiplex over cost over-runs on the Wembley Stadium project, among others.
