It’s time to get grip on the ‘Serious Farce Office’

So much for the SFO banishing its reputation as the “Serious Farce Office”.

Even the most ardent supporter of the corporate crime-fighting agency would struggle to put a positive slant on the collapse of its massive fraud case against two former senior Tesco directors.

The four-year inquiry, which cost taxpayers more than £10m, was condemned by the trial judge as “so weak that it should not be left for a jury’s consideration”. Sir John Royce even apologised to jurors for wasting two months of their time.
